From a small dream of making necklaces to the Gambia’s Fashion Industry, Sylva Beads Design(SBD) has penetrated the Gambian Fashion industry. Marie Sabistian Sylva, the proprietress of Sylva Beads Design, she is a graduate of St. Joseph Senior Secondary School and a Primary Teacher’s Certificate (PTC) holder from the Gambia College and currently a teacher at Albion and Wesley Lower Basic Schools respectively. She is also pursuing an advance diploma in Education at the Gambia College.
Her talent in handicraft and creativity skills, made her realised the need for handmade products in the Gambia and a business venture thus propelling her to setup SBD. Sylva Beads Design produce handmade products such as, beaded handbags, clutches, necklaces, tissue boxes, shoes, notepads etc. Their products are being used by prominent individuals in the Gambia and abroad. Marie have innovated 17 beaded products and employed 15 young Gambians who are currently working with her.
She has attended an international Exhibition in Marakesh, Morocco where she had the opportunity to display her handmade products. She is also a registered member of the GAMBIA YOUTH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
